General

	THE CHARLOTTE ALUMNAE PANHELLENIC SCHOLARSHIP Fill Out Open until: March 16, 2012 5:00 PM A scholarship in the amount of $1000 will be presented this spring by the Charlotte Alumnae Panhellenic Council. It will be available for the 2012-2013 academic year. This scholarship is intended to honor a sorority member who has exemplified what it means to represent her sorority and the Greek Community in general. In no way is it based on need. The funds will be administered by the University. It is understood that if, for any reason, the recipient does not remain a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for the entire academic year, she is responsible for refunding the full amount. TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP, YOU MUST: • Be a current sophomore, junior, senior or post baccalaureate student and be an initiated and active member of a sorority that has membership in the National Panhellenic Conference. • Be currently enrolled and carrying a full class load in a degree program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. • Be an outstanding participant in campus and chapter activities as evidenced by your recommendations and application. • Have a cumulative average of at least a “B” (3.0). DIXIE DETWEILER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION Nomination Fill Out Open until: March 16, 2012 11:00 PM Sponsored by Delta Zeta Sorority In 1989, Dixie Detweiler, after leaving a Delta Zeta retreat, was on her way to work as a hospital volunteer when she was tragically killed in an automobile accident. This scholarship was established by Delta Zeta in her honor. Dixie was very involved in Delta Zeta as well as many other aspects of Greek and campus life at UNC Charlotte. She did a lot of “behind the scenes” things such as planning a get together for members or volunteering to do tasks that other people would not do. She was an unselfish person with endless enthusiasm and energy, willing to give 110% to anything that she set out to do. She was an excellent example to other men and women that you did not have to hold an office to be involved or to make a difference in an organization. It was the ordinary, everyday things that she did with such pride that made her stand out in the sorority. She was especially involved in Intramurals as a player and as a referee. No matter what organization was on the field or court, they knew that Dixie would be fair and consistent. Dixie was also well known for her generous spirit among the Greek community, constantly volunteering through the School of Nursing, Delta Zeta, and Panhellenic. She was an average student with an above average desire to help other people. It is the desire of the founders of this scholarship and the Detweiler family to recognize just such individuals. Selection Criteria: Candidates for this scholarship should be nominated by a member of their fraternity or sorority or by another member of the Greek community, a chapter advisor, faculty advisor or University official. Please provide a personal letter describing the characteristics of the candidate that exemplify those traits of unselfish devotion and behind the scenes abilities that made Dixie Detweiler such a unique individual. Many of our members are praiseworthy leaders, but it is the unsung heroes and heroines that this scholarship wishes to recognize. Each nomination will be reviewed based on the candidate’s involvement within their organization and in activities elsewhere on campus or in the community. Any current student is eligible. Please be advised all Scholarship applications are due by 5:00 pm March 16, 2012. J. HENRY NICHOLS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION Kappa Sigma Fraternity • UNC Charlotte Fill Out Open until: March 16, 2012 5:00 PM SCHOLARSHIP, LEADERSHIP, FELLOWSHIP, AND SERVICE are the four cornerstones that Kappa Sigma Fraternity bases its existence. It seems only appropriate for the J. Henry Nichols Scholarship to be awarded to a Brother who exhibits excellence in all those categories. J. Henry Nichols was District President for all of North Carolina from the mid-70's to the mid-80's. Brother Nichols was District President of the Year and was one of the most respected leaders in Kappa Sigma. He was an initiate of Beta Chapter at the University of Alabama and served as president of the chapter. Brother Nichols also served as alumnus advisor for Kappa-Omega chapter (UNC Charlotte) prior to becoming district president for North Carolina. He has two sons that are Kappa Sigmas: Hank and Mac, who were both initiates of Beta Chapter. Brother Nichols was also the recipient of the Stephen Alonzo Jackson Award in 1985, which is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a volunteer officer or alumnus of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. After stepping down from the district president position, Brother Nichols received the title of district president plenipotentiary. He was a fine Brother and a tribute to all Kappa Sigmas. JOSEPH P. MARTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Fill Out Open until: March 16, 2012 5:00 PM The Joseph P. Martin Scholarship is given in memory of Joe Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Martin of Matthews, North Carolina. In the fall of 1997, while attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Joe lost his life in an automobile accident. This scholarship serves to help remember Joe’s love for his fellow man and his zest for life. Joe worked to make things right by contributing his time and talents in various ways. He enjoyed working with young children who faced challenges in their life. His commitment to making a difference was also evidenced by his involvement in Chi Phi. Joe was an active participant in his fraternity. His loyalty to Chi Phi showed in the way he cared about his brothers and took a personal interest in their lives. Joe was an energetic young man and was active in all kinds of sports. Scuba diving, rugby, and swimming were among his favorites. Joe played intramural sports throughout his stay at UNC Charlotte. By serving on the Student Government Association as Chairman for Student Affairs, Joe took a leadership role at the University. Through their generosity, Joe’s parents have established this scholarship in his name. Their hope is to provide an opportunity for other students to fulfill their dreams and thus keep alive the dreams that Joe Martin had begun to realize. The Dean of Students Office, a member of the Chi Phi Alumni Association, and the Martin Family will review the applications. Recipients will be announced at Greek Awards. Award Amount: One (1) scholarship of $1,000.00 will be awarded for the Fall 2012 academic semester. Candidates shall be a rising Junior or Senior members of the Chi Phi Fraternity, shall have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better, be in good standing with the University, show involvement in extra-curricular activities, and show a strong commitment to the Fraternity and its activities. BRIAN CARAWAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION Fill Out Open until: March 16, 2012 5:00 PM Sponsored by Kappa Alpha Order and the Caraway Family Brian Caraway was a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and an active member of Kappa Alpha Order. A vivacious individual, Brian was involved in all types of sports and thoroughly enjoyed the people around him. Brian was also afflicted with lymphoma and died during his junior year at UNCC. To honor Brian and the many memories of both his family and his fraternity this scholarship was established. It is the wish of the Caraway Family that these scholarships will be used to encourage you to take the time to enjoy being involved in all types of campus activities and in making as many friends as time allows. Brian was compassionate while competitive, a loyal friend, and possessed a positive outlook on life. These are the characteristics this scholarship is designed to reward. Selection Criteria: Candidates shall have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better, show involvement in extra-curricular activities, be in good standing with the University, and recognized by students and faculty for their spirit, enthusiasm, zeal and for projecting a positive image. The Dean of Students Office, two members of Kappa Alpha Order and the Caraway Family will review the applications. A personal interview will be scheduled with each candidate. Award Amount: Two (2) scholarships of $500.00 will be awarded. One scholarship will be awarded to a member of Kappa Alpha Order. 	Greek Woman of the Year Nomination Fill Out The Greek Man of the Year is recognized for their service to the chapter and the Greek community and how this experience has helped him to become involved on campus and within the community. This award recognizes three individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty. This nominee exemplifies the ideals of fraternal association and challenges chapter members to do the same. (Include the following information in your application.) Greek Advisor of the Year Fill Out This award is given to recognize those chapter advisors who do an outstanding job working with our organizations. This award recognizes three individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty. This nominee exemplifies the ideals of fraternal association and challenges chapter members to do the same. Name of Individual: Fraternity/Sorority Name: Greek Awards Outstanding Senior Fill Out This award is given to TWO seniors of each chapter, nominated by the chapter, who represent the ideals of fraternity and sorority life. The purpose is to recognize those seniors from each chapter who have attained a high standard of leadership in their chapter, IFC, PHA, DGC, IC, or NPHC, other campus clubs and organizations or the community. The honorees should also be selected for their encouragement, support, and inspiration to others.
